What's the Difference between a Registered dietitian and a nutritionist?

A registered dietitian is a licensed professional with expertise in nutrition that has to complete additional coursework, 1200 hours of supervised training and pass a national exam. A nutritionist is not a legally protected term, so ANYONE can call themselves a nutritionist. If you are seeking health related advice related to diet, exercise and disease prevention or management, make sure you get it from a reputable source like a registered dietitian.

Where are counseling sessions conducted?

All sessions are currently held virtually. You can join from anywhere with a secure internet connection using a smartphone or computer with audio and video.
To support privacy and safety, sessions should be completed in a quiet, private space. For safety reasons, sessions cannot be conducted while driving.

Do you have virtual visits for people who live in different states?

Services are currently available to clients located in Texas and New York. Because licensing regulations vary by state and may change, we may be able to offer services in other locations on a case-by-case basis.
If you’re located outside of Texas or New York, feel free to reach out through the contact form and I can confirm whether services can be provided in your area.

What happens during counseling sessions?

During an initial session, we’ll start with a lot of questions to learn more about your history, current situation, and goals. From there, we’ll work together to come up with a plan—including how often to meet and what we want to focus on moving forward.
All questions are optional, and you can share at your own pace. My role is to create a supportive, non-judgmental space (I’m not the food police!).
For those interested in a family-based or caregiver-supported approach, sessions may also include parents or caregivers. In this model, we focus on empowering caregivers to take an active role in supporting nutrition and recovery, while working together to navigate challenges as they come up.
In follow-up sessions, we’ll check in on progress, troubleshoot any challenges, and adjust our approach as needed. Sessions are collaborative and flexible, and we’ll continue to tailor things based on what’s most helpful for you (or your family).

How long do we need to keep having sessions?

It totally depends! Some people only need a few sessions to kick start their goals. If you are struggling with an eating  disorder, you may need to continue for a longer period of time to secure your recovery from relapse. If you have started and stopped making a change many times (yo-yo dieting or paying for a gym membership that goes unused for example), we highly recommend starting with weekly sessions and transitioning slowly to bi-weekly, then monthly, then as needed to have that extra support to finally meet your goals.

What is your cancellation policy?

Life happens! If your schedule changes and you’re unable to make your session, please let me know at least 24 hours in advance so we can reschedule.
A card on file is required for all clients. Initial sessions that are missed or cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged in full. For ongoing sessions, I allow up to two late cancellations or missed sessions without charge. After that, sessions will be charged in full.
Consistent attendance is an important part of the process, and this policy helps protect your time as well as availability for others.
